radioactive

radon

Radon gas is a carcinogen associated with lung cancer. It is a byproduct of the natural breakdown of radium in soil, rocks, and groundwater, and occurs naturally all over the world. Outdoors, the gas dissipates in the air, but inside a building, radon can be dangerous. It can enter a from underneath a house, or leach into the water supply. Ground-floor rooms and homes with well water are especially at risk. Because the gas is colorless, tasteless, and has no odor, the only way to detect the presence of radon is to have a house tested.

recycled

Recycled products are made from manufactured materials that have been reclaimed and reprocessed to create new products. Glass, aluminum, wood, and paper are among the most commonly recycled materials.

reverse osmosis

The movement of fresh water through a semipermeable membrane when pressure is applied to a solution on one side of it. Reverse osmosis water filters utilize this process to separate water from contaminants. Pressure, applied to contaminated water on one side of the membrane or filter, forces the water through the filter which removes the contaminants.
